Auditor's OfficeThe county auditor’s responsibilities are vast as defined by the Ohio Revised Code. The following key functions exist under the county auditor:

Chief Fiscal Officer
As chief fiscal officer (CFO) of the county, the auditor is the accountant for all elected officials as well as many county agencies such as park districts, health departments, and commissions.  As part of these responsibilities, the auditor:

Tax Assessor
As tax assessor, the auditor has the following critical responsibilities:
  • Establishing the real property value for each parcel of real estate
  • Calculating the associated taxes
  • Managing property tax reduction programs
  • Calculating the amount to be distributed to each taxing district after the taxes have been collected by the county treasurer
  • Estimating the tax a local government wants to put on the ballot according to what they define as their need
  • Administering tax exemptions for charities, churches as well as disabled and senior citizens

Additional Responsibilities
The diverse responsibilities of the county auditor also include:
  • Sealing commercial gas pumps, scales, and other measuring devices as the Official Sealer of Weights and Measures
  • Licensing of dogs, vendors, and others
  • Managing the county’s computer systems
