Treatment Using the Therapeutic Community (TC) Modality
At Greene Leaf, we believe that treatment is not limited to group and individual therapy. Treatment occurs in every aspect of the day, following the TC approach of ‘community as method’. Simply stated, ‘community as method’ means that treatment is provided through staff and community members as a whole, and the use of peer influence, employed through a variety of techniques, helps to align individuals with social norms and develop effective social skills. Change, of course, begins with the individual, but is guided through the use of these structured and unstructured community techniques.
Treatment at Greene Leaf is divided into four phases. Each client advances through these phases as he / she demonstrates increased personal and social responsibility. Additionally, within the community there is a hierarchy established which consists of senior members whose primary function is to act as positive role models and maintain a healthy community.
