Judge Stephen A. Wolaver

 


Judge Judge Stephen A. Wolaver was elected to the Common Pleas Court in 2002 and began his judicial duties on January 2, 2003. He was re-elected November 2009 for a second 6 year term.

He was raised in Greene County and admitted to practice law in Ohio on November 7, 1975.

Judge Wolaver practiced law in Fairborn, and was an assistant prosecuting attorney for 26 years, serving since 1989 as Chief Trial Counsel.

He is admitted to all Ohio Courts, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. Tax Court, and U.S. Supreme Court.

Judge Wolaver has been a president of the Greene County Bar Association and a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, American Judges Association, Ohio Judicial Conference, Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association, and he serves on the editorial board of the Ohio Jury Instruction Committee and is a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference Criminal Law and Procedure Committee, Board of the Library of Reasoned Orders and is appointed to the Supreme Court Commission of the Rules of Practice and Procedure.

He has been an instructor at the National Advocacy Center, Columbia, South Carolina and lectured for the National College of District Attorneys, OPAA, Michigan Prosecuting Attorneys Association, National Organization of Victim Assistance, OPOTA, Ohio Attorney General, Ohio Victim Advocates Association, Clark State, and currently is an instructor of law at the Greene County Law Enforcement Training Academy.

He has been inducted into the Fairborn High School Hall of Honor, received the OPAA "Assistant Prosecutor of the year Award for the State of Ohio" and was honored nationally for his trial work by AGACL. He has co-authored and contributed to Anderson’s Ohio Civil Practice 2d Edition, and written for the Ohio Judicial Conference.

Judge Wolaver received his bachelors degree from Miami University Oxford, Ohio in 1972 and Juris Doctor degree from the Valparaiso University School of Law Valparaiso, Indiana in 1975.
