FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a service-connected disability?

Disability compensation is a monetary benefit paid to veterans who are disabled by injury or disease incurred or aggravated during active military service.

What is a non-service-connected disability (Pension)?

Veterans with low incomes who are permanently and totally disabled, or are age 65 or older, may be eligible for monetary support if they have 90 days or more of active military service, at least one day of which was during war.

What is Dependency and Indemnity Compensation DIC ?

DIC is a benefit paid to survivors of veterans who died of a disease or injury while on active military duty or who died as a result of a service connected disability.

What is Death Pension?

Death pension or Widows pension is a benefit paid to surviving spouses based on need if the veteran had war time service.

How do I apply for Military records or medals and decoration?

The veteran should apply in our office with proper identification to request that information from NPRC.

How do I apply for Military funeral honors, VA headstones, Grave markers (Flag holders) and burial benefits?

Upon request the funeral director will provide military funeral honors for the burial of military members and eligible veterans or contact our office.

To file for a headstone or burial benefits the applicant should bring a death certificate and proof of Honorable military service.

Flag holders can be obtained at our office when applying for headstone or burial benefits.
