Greene County CASA
History
Concerned over making decisions about abused and neglected children's lives without sufficient information, a Seattle judge conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court. So successful was this Seattle program that soon judges across the country began utilizing citizen advocates. In 1990, the U.S. Congress encouraged the expansion of CASA with passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act. Today more than 900 CASA programs are in operation, with 70,000 women and men serving as CASA volunteers.
Every child deserves a safe, permanent home.
Greene County CASA
Greene County CASA was founded in 1996, and has grown steadily, serving more children each year. Greene County CASA is a non-profit organization of volunteers who work for the juvenile court judges—CASA volunteers are sworn officers of the court. The goal of Greene County CASA is to provide a CASA/GAL advocate for every child in Greene County who needs one. CASA's mission is to advocate so that child victims do not get lost in the system and find safe, permanent homes.
