About Us
What we do
Greene County Children Services helps provide the support many families need to offer their children safe and loving homes. We offer a spectrum of services including:

  • Family Assessment – We respond to reports of possible child abuse, neglect or dependency by visiting the home and gathering information about the situation. Many concerns can be resolved without any services beyond the assessment.
  • Family Support– We coordinate services to help families develop the problem-solving skills they need to remain intact and reduce the potential for abuse and neglect. If the children cannot remain safely within their own home, the agency will work with the family to develop a temporary, safe living arrangement outside the home. We will continue to work with the family so that reunification is possible.
  • We help find homes for children who cannot live in their current home safely. This includes:
    • Foster Care Temporary care provided by fully screened, licensed caregivers with extensive training

    • Adoption Permanent placement of a child with a licensed and qualified family.
    • Relatives/KinshipWhen a child cannot remain at home, he or she may live with a relative through blood or marriage, or with an unrelated person who has a close, supportive relationship with the child (kin).
  • Independent Living Program – Interactive, educational program to help youth build the critical life skills needed to transition to independence as responsible adults.

We are the agency designated by law to provide for the care, protection and placement of abused, neglected and dependent children in Greene County. Our goal is to preserve and strengthen families in our community. The safety of children is always our top priority.

Reporting suspected child abuse or neglect. Abuse and neglect can come in many forms. Below are the most common examples:

  • Physical Abuse: non-accidental injuries, such as bruises, burns, welts, cuts and fractures inflicted by any person

  • Physical Neglect: failure to provide basic needs, such as food, medical care, clothing, and protection that a child needs for adequate growth and development.
  • Emotional Abuse and Neglect: negative interaction between a parent and child, such as constant and undue criticism, verbal abuse, ignoring the child or other forms of rejecting the child.
  • Sexual Abuse: situations of sexual stimulation, incest, and sexual exploitation, which may include using children in pornographic films or photographs.

We depend on you to report suspected child abuse or neglect. Your input is critical to our success. Ohio law requires some individuals to report concerns of child abuse, neglect and dependency to the proper authority in their county. These individuals include, but are not limited to: attorneys, law enforcement, medical/health care professionals, and school/day care personnel.

Anyone who knows or suspects that a child has been or is at risk of being abused, neglected or dependent should report it by calling Greene County Children Services at:
