CREEKSIDE TRAIL

Creekside TrailDuring construction, Creekside Trail was known as the “H-Connector” project.  The new name was created because the trail follows Shawnee Creek from the Xenia area and the Little Beaver Creeks in Beavercreek.

Meandering along the peaceful creek and the shade of the trees, you can barely recognize your urban and suburban surroundings!  (Click on the picture for larger detail.)

The trail passes by two wetland areas, providing an extraordinary view of rare plants and animals.

One of these is the Creekside Reserve, which begins at Factory Road and runs along the south side of the trail to near Fairfield Road.

Utilizing the 140’ bridge over Shawnee Creek at the James Ranch, you can commute to:

  • the Fairgrounds Recreation Center Park
  • Mullins Pool
  • the Greene County Fairgrounds
  • the Little Miami Scenic Trail.

The trail then continues into Montgomery County, Dayton and Kettering.

Five Rivers Metroparks manages the Creekside Trail from the Greene County line to Eastwood MetroPark, which will connect you with the Mad River Bikeway and the Great Miami River Corridor Bikeway.

LITTLE MIAMI SCENIC TRAIL

Greene County manages 15 miles of this 70 mile trail, which extends from Milford to Springfield.

From Xenia Station, the county manages 3 miles south to Hedges Road, and 12 miles north to Jackson Road in Clark County.

Portions of the trail parallel the Little Miami State and National Scenic River and winds serenely through the beautiful countryside of Greene County.

Xenia and the unique village of Yellow Springs provide numerous opportunities for food, shopping, lodging and equipment rental and sales.

Xenia StationXenia Station, the hub of trails in Greene County, is a replica of the original telegraph office that was located on the same site during the railroad era.

The building now provides restrooms, vending machines, drinking water, bicycle lockers, classrooms, parking for motor vehicles, local area information and railroad exhibits, and is operated by the City of Xenia

Yellow Springs also has a replicated depot that provides some of the same amenities, which is operated by the Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce

OHIO TO ERIE TRAIL

Ohio to Erie TrailThe Ohio to Erie Trail passes quickly from the busy urban setting of the city of Xenia into the beautiful rural Greene County countryside.

Connecting spurs at Sims Street and Bob Evans Park link the east side of Xenia and YRC baseball complex.

The trail is 12’ wide out to Wilberforce-Switch Road, where a 0.9 mile spur connects to:

From there, the 10’ ribbon of pavement winds gently through area farm fields and crosses a magnificent wooded gorge with limestone cliffs and mature hardwood forest.

This portion of the trail connects one park in Xenia and two parks in Cedarville, as part of the 320 mile Ohio to Erie Trail, connecting Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland.

The trail in Clark and Madison Counties is known as the Prairie Grass Trail.  Construction to London was completed in 2004 and 6.5 miles of aggregate trail extends east of London.  Facilities are available  in South Charleston and London.

FAIRBORN'S WRIGHT BROTHERS' HUFFMAN PRAIRIE BIKEWAY

Fairborn's Wright Brothers Huffman Prairie Bikeway is a 12’ wide urban trail linking downtown Fairborn with the Wright Brothers Memorial, a unique part of the Wright Brothers National Historic Park, and was one of the many highlights of the Inventing Flight Celebration in 2003.
