Office & Marketing Assistance
Volunteers are needed to:
- assist with mailings
- stuffing
envelopes
- preparing program/event goody bags
- making copies
- assisting
with delivery of the seasonal activity guide.
Volunteers should have
their own transportation and a general interest in the continued success
of parks and recreation activities, open spaces as well as environmental
and recreational programming. For questions about volunteering,
please contact Robin Gregory at 937-562-7440 or by email.
Trail Sentinels
Do you enjoy the many bike paths throughout Greene County? Do
you enjoy bicycling, rollerblading and hiking? If so, you can perform
these activities while serving your local community! We are looking
for volunteers to join our Trail Sentinel Patrol program. This program,
founded in 1998, is an opportunity for volunteers to assist our Ranger Division
by reporting problems, providing information and education for our multi-purpose
trail users throughout Greene County and beyond. Volunteers need to
be age 18 and older and be able to walk or ride for a least a couple of
hours per shift. If this is of interest to you, please call Sgt.
Bill Nickell at 937-562-7407 or email him here.
Bluebird Monitoring
Each spring, the Bluebirds that have migrated south for
the winter make their way back north. The birds that have wintered
here have spread out, all looking for their own nesting spot.
In four
of Greene County's parks, boxes have been put up to encourage the Bluebirds
to nest.
Volunteers are needed to check these boxes, to make sure
that only Bluebirds are nesting there, along with tallying how many Bluebirds
have fledged.
Maps locating each of the boxes and tallying information
will be provided to volunteers. If you have a little free time and
your hands an enjoy spending time outdoors with nature, contact Cris
Barnett at 937-562-7469.
Nature Center & Naturalist Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center in Beavercreek. Volunteer
Naturalists are needed to help with answering public questions, keeping
the building open for the public, day to day up-keep of the building and
many other opportunities. If you would like to volunteer at the center,
please call Cris Barnett at
937-562-7469.
Volunteers In Parks (VIPs)
This group of volunteers began in 1996 and includes persons who like to spend
their time in 1 or 2 parks near their home. They assist with maintenance,
talk with visitors and help rangers by calling in possible safety and law
enforcement concerns. If this interests you, please call the Ranger
Office at 937-562-7448.
Reserve Rangers
Begun in 1995, these positions are fully commissioned law
enforcement officers.
Applicants must have completed a state certified
peace officer academy and be at least 18 years of age.
This is not
a position for persons interested in helping the ranger staff, but rather
persons in law enforcement looking for an opportunity to gain experience
as a ranger.
If this interests you, please call the Ranger office
at 937-562-7448.
