a. Usage is calculated on a three-month or quarterly cycle for most of
our customers. Some customers in outlying areas have a remote read meter
that is read monthly and the customer is billed according to usage. The
County is in the middle of a five-year capital improvement plan that includes
eventually being able to read all meters on a monthly basis.
b. Bills will be sent to you every month. Billing is done in arrears.
c. For customers not on monthly readings, the first and second bills
represent the minimum charge for one month, based on 1,000 gallons of water used
and 3,000 gallons of sewer used. The third month bill represents your actual usage based on the quarterly
meter reading. This bill includes your monthly minimum charges plus
charges for additional amounts used above the three-month minimum amount of
3,000 gallons of water and 9,000 gallons of sewage. Please see the section
on "Understanding Your Bill"
for a more detailed explanation.
Late Payments
Payments received after the monthly close of the books, usually the second to
the last business day of every month, may not be reflected on your next
statement. A penalty charge will be assessed if payment is not credited by
the close of the books.
Automatic Bank Debits
Payments by credit card are not available at this time. Automatic bank
debit is available. The application form is available from the Sanitary
Engineering Department or by clicking here.
Level billing
Level billing is available for customers who have been on the system at least
a year. For more information on level billing, click here.
High Usage
If your quarterly usage in any given cycle is unusually high, please check
for leaks. High usage may be caused by leaky toilets (flapper valves or
overflow tube), dripping faucets, water softener malfunction or a possible
underground leak. Watering your lawn, flowers, shrubs or washing cars or
siding, even having guests for an extended time can cause high usage. If
you continue to have high usage and cannot locate the source, please contact our
office for advice.
Irrigation meters
Our customer service personnel will shut off your irrigation meters in winter
and turn them back on in the spring if a customer approval form is submitted. There is no
charge for this service. Draining and winterizing the irrigation system
and meter is the responsibility of the property owner.
