EDUCATION and AWARENESS

Greene County offers environmental education programs for every grade level from pre-school to adult, for both traditional and non-traditional classroom settings.

Programs are presented in a hands-on manner, involving all learning styles, and are tied into the education standards whenever possible.

Topics can include:

Solid Waste
Recycling
Anti-littering
Tours of the Recycling facility
Composting and vermicomposting
Crafts using recycled material
Water
The water cycle
Water conservation
Water use
Water treatment
History of water and the community
Stormwater protection
Wellfield protection
Tours of the water treatment plant
Wastewater (best done in connection with a tour of the plant)
Wastewater treatment
History and benefits of wastewater treatment in the community

Programs can be based on local experience or on projects from well-known programs such as Project Wet, Windows on Waste, Wonders of Wetlands, and Healthy Water, Healthy People.  We can facilitate Project Wet training for teachers.

We will work with local teachers to meet their classroom needs, as well as with other educational groups.  Programs can be offered in the classroom, at our facilities, or in other non-traditional settings.  We use games, pets, books, and other attention-grabbing methods to present our message.
