As part of the effort to
promote sustainable and responsible water use,
Greene County has partnered with a group of
Landscapers and Irrigation Specialist to help
spread the word. These lawn care specialists
are also working hard to promote environmental
responsibility by providing information on the
smallest amount of water needed to keep a green
lawn and how to set automatic watering systems to
use the least amount of water necessary. Group members have met with
County officials monthly to provide input on
proper lawn care, suggestions for reaching
customers with the information, and have provided
enormous support for the County’s efforts.
Two of those professionals
offered their comments about the County’s Save
Water, Save Money program. In addition to the lawn care
professionals, the County has been collaborating
with the Greene County Homebuilder’s Association
to inform them of the water situation; and with
the Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce. Even as the County plans
improvements that should ease the burden on the
water system, officials are working on additional
collaborations to promote sustainable and
responsible environmental stewardship.

The Greene County Sanitary Engineering
Department and Commissioners have performed
a great service for us and our customers by
meeting with contractors such as myself from
the landscape industry to discuss how we can
all use water responsibly to maintain our
client’s lawns and gardens and insure that
there is enough water for the needs of the
rest of their customers.

Hello, my name is Jeffrey Heil owner of O·Heil Irrigation
and Site Solutions Company. I work closely with my surrounding counties in
finding the most energy efficient way to help conserve our water. Greene County
has taken the extra steps for its residents in helping to keep the county green
for your environment and green for your pleasure. I want to personally thank
Greene County for their time and dedication to help conserve our water. They
truly have made living in Greene County an enjoyable and reliable experience for
all its residents. Below are a few examples of how you too can conserve on
water. |

The best time to water your lawn is
between 3AM and 9AM, this will help
to aid the following: |
 |
It helps to eliminate water loss due
to wind and evaporation. |
 |
The
wind is typically lightest during
the early morning hours. |
 |
Watering
during the afternoon hours can cause
up to 35% of your water to be lost
to evaporation. |
 |
It helps to prevent health problems
with your turf grass. |
 |
To avoid disease and fungus problems
avoid watering in the evening hours,
by watering in the evening hours
your lawn stays moist all
night which provides an ideal
environment for disease and fungus. |
 |
The worst time to water your lawn is
between 12 Noon and 12 midnight due
to above mentioned problems. |
|
 |
Water your lawn in the early
morning. |
 |
Try to do all of your watering on
the same day. Meaning, plan to
water your lawn and wash your car on
the same day. |
 |
For garden hose watering use a timer
to control your usage. |
 |
Use our “Four Corner perimeter
method” to avoid just sticking your
sprinkler in the middle of your
lawn. Put it around the perimeter
for timed periods and you will save
water, time and money! |
 |
For automatic irrigation systems,
have a rain sensor installed that
will automatically adjust to weather
conditions.
