Water system improvements underway

Greene County has been working and will continue to work to improve customer communications as well as to make major improvements to the water system.  Click here for information on why we issued a water ban in 2007.

Communication

Upon reviewing the events leading up to the water ban, we recognized that communication with our customers needed to be improved.  As a result, we will be using the CodeRed Emergency Notification System in addition to our traditional communication methods (web page, newsletter, newspaper, radio, etc.)  CodeRed is an ultra high-speed automated calling service that allows government officials to  notify residents of important information.

We will continue to evaluate customer suggestions for other means of communicating important information with them.

                    Water System Improvements

The County has been continuously making water system improvements but recognizes the need to expedite the acquisition of additional water sources, either through the siting of additional wells or through intergovernmental agreements .

We have plans in place for short-term, intermediate, and long-term improvements. Upgrading a water system is not an easy task, nor is it one that can occur rapidly. Below are the planned improvements for the Northwest Regional Water System, as identified in the Master Plan.  The time periods are shown as they are currently projected.  All efforts will be made to expedite the projects to increase the excess capacity of the system. Click here for a copy of the executive summary of the Master Plan for the Northwest Regional Water System.
