How to get Involved

How to Prevent Pollution picture You can become a member of a number of organizations dedicated to preserving our water resources.

Help keep your neighborhood clean by not littering, and by picking up trash. Many areas sponsor collective clean ups or river cleanups.

Help out the roadways by signing up for the Greene County Adopt-a-spot program. You are asked to clean your “spot” four times a year. Call the Greene County Environmental Services Division at (937) 562-5925 for more information.

Join your local watershed association because we all live downstream. There are several in this area: Little Miami River Partnership, Little Miami, Inc., the Beaver Creek Wetlands Association, and more. Call (937) 562-7679 for more information on these organizations or see the links page.

Rally around construction.  Building expansion and road construction, commercial developments, and even new homes can cause water pollution if practices are not in place to control sediment (dirt) and runoff during heavy rains. Encourage local officials to continue to improve erosion control ordinances and encourage contractors to learn about Best Management Practices they can implement to minimize runoff during and after construction.
