How do I dispose of paint?

Proper paint disposal information can be found at the Paint Disposal Information page.  

How do I dispose of motor oil?

We do not accept motor oil, but many oil changing locations and automotive centers will accept up to five (5) gallons of oil free of charge.  The Fairborn City garage, Xenia City garage and Village of Yellow Springs will also accept motor oil.  Please call these locations for further details.

What type of appliances do you take at the collection event? Can I bring in an appliance with Freon?

We accept most metal appliances except water softeners.  We do not accept non-metal appliances. We will accept appliances with Freon at our collection events.  We have personnel trained and certified to remove the Freon.  There is no charge to Greene County residents for this service. Please remove all non-appliance related materials from inside the appliance, such as food debris and containers.  Please call (937) 562-5925 if you have any questions. 

Do you take mercury?

We will accept items with mercury as long as they are double bagged and sealed in plastic baggies.  Items can be dropped off during office and yard waste hours.  

Where can I take other types of yard waste that you cannot accept such as stumps, dirt and sod?

Where is the closest landfill where I can dispose of household trash?

Waste Management operates a solid waste transfer station located at 1700 North Broad St, Fairborn (800) 343-6047.  Other locations that may be used are the Stony Hollow landfill located at 2460 S. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton (937) 268-1133 or the Montgomery County South Transfer Station, 2550 Sandridge Drive, Moraine (937) 225-4999.

How do I dispose of tires?

We do not accept tires at the Recycling Center.  In some Greene County areas, your waste hauler provides this service.  Please call your waste hauler to see if tire disposal is available.  Montgomery County South Transfer Station, 2550 Sandridge Drive in Moraine 225-4999 will take tires at their facility.  In addition, many tire stores will take tires from the public for a nominal fee.   

I want to start recycling curbside at home, how do I get a recycling bin?

When will you pick up my trash?

Where can I take construction debris?

Xenia Demolition Landfill, 588 Dayton-Xenia Road, Xenia (937) 372-2978. 

Will you take my Christmas tree at the Yard Waste sites?

Yes, same rules apply as with brush.  The brush can be no more than four feet long or four inches in diameter.

Will you take cornstalks at the Yard Waste sites?

Yes, if you only have small amount.  The cornstalks must be broken down to no more than four feet in length and all corn removed.  The broken down cornstalks can be placed in with the grass and leaves.

Will you take hay at the Yard Waste sites?

Yes, we will accept only one or two bales with all the strings/wires removed.  The hay should be broken up and thrown in with the grass and leaves.  

Can you take small amounts of old mulch and wood chips at the Yard Waste sites?

Yes, throw them in with the grass and leaves.  No dirt allowed.

Does anyone take propane tanks from gas grills?

Collett Propane, 1525 Burnett Drive, Xenia (937) 372-9194 will accept propane tanks. 

Where can I take my cans in Greene County to get paid for them?

Who do I call if I have a mosquito problem?

What are the rules for burning leaves?

The rules vary by location. Call the RAPCA (Regional Air Pollution Control Authority) at (937) 225-4435. 

We have questions about our oil tank.

Does Greene County have a RV Dumping Facility?

Yes, the Beavercreek Water Reclamation Facility (937-562-7167), 420 Factory Road in Beavercreek.  Hours are Monday through Friday 7:30-3:30.  Go to Administrative Office first to fill out short form and pay if it applies to you.  This service is free if you are a Greene County sewer and water customer.  There is a $5.00 charge if you are not a customer.  You must have exact change.

What is the safest way to dispose of hypodermic needles?

Use a rigid, leak-proof, puncture-resistant container with a tight fitting lid (bleach bottle, detergent bottle, 2 liter bottle, coffee can)  For more information, call the Health Department (937) 374-5600 or local EPA (937) 285-6357 or Ohio EPA’s Division of Solid and Infectious Waste Management Infectious Waste Unit at (614) 644-2651.
