According to Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer, “These mounted
search volunteers give their time, talent, and energy to provide
resources we otherwise would not have at our disposal. A horse and
rider can reach wooded or isolated areas not visible from an air
search, and reach them faster than someone on foot. They are a value
to our department and our community, particularly with the realities
of economics and continuing budget cuts for municipalities.”
The Greene County Mounted Search Team provides local law enforcement
with volunteer horse and rider teams for aide with official searches
for missing persons, articles, and evidence, as well as disaster
assistance. The team operates in conjunction with the Greene County
Sheriff’s Department and the Greene County Chapter of the Ohio
Horseman’s Council.
